How to Mobilize your Marketing to Increase Holiday Sales
Happy Cyber Week! If you are like most retail marketers this weekend has probably been one of the biggest for your online sales. The New York Times is reporting that mobile traffic “accounted for nearly 40 percent of all online traffic on (Black) Friday” (full article). Are your marketing initiatives ready for the mobile revolution? Here are our top tips for mobilizing your holiday marketing efforts in order to not lose out on precious customers.
1.) Mobilize your email marketing. Email may be the first point of contact for announcing your holiday promotions to your customers. Make sure your email design is mobile friendly by creating buttons that are at least 44 pixels large (the width of the common finger), links are placed with enough padding in between them to prevent accidental clicking, and your design renders correctly on all devices. Luckily mailPlants has a full suite of mobile email marketing features to help you reach your mobile audience effectively! (Check out our pricing to start today.)
2.) Mobilize your landing pages. Even if your email marketing is completely optimized for mobile if your landing pages are a mess on tablets and smart phones you could be losing valuable customer purchases due to frustrated users. The same rules apply for landing pages as emails- make buttons large enough, increase padding between links and check for any layout issues. Further, make sure your landing pages are compelling and carry over the same design elements from your email.
3.) Mobilize your website. Just like your landing pages, if your website cannot render and allow for purchases on mobile you will certainly lose a large chunk of your audience this holiday season. Spend the time and money to really invest in a mobile optimized website. Make sure your design still has the main components and design layout of your regular website to avoid mobile shopper confusion. And finally…
4.) Test, test and test again! I know we’ve mentioned it many times before, but it bears repeating- test your mobilized emails, landing pages and website using all mobile devices (smart phones and tablets) and using all browsers (Chrome, Safari, IE) and operating platforms (iOS, Android). Go through all the steps to browse and purchase just like one of your subscribers and potential customers would do. Could anything be simplified? Is there an easier way to drive them to the checkout process? Put yourself in their shoes to really understand how to make your mobile branding work!
